Paternity Leave

Summers Knoll is a wonderful community oriented school that looks to the social and emotional needs of its constituents in addition to academics. That I was able to take three weeks of paternity leave was an example of this commitment. Several times I've been asked how I was able to be at a doctor's appointment or just out with my child on a weekday, and I've been able to proudly relate that Summers Knoll is a great place to work, not the least because the community understands the importance of these first few weeks in my child's life. I am extremely grateful to the community for this time.

While I am certainly not refreshed, I can't imagine the state I'd be in if I'd had to return to work more immediately after the birth of my daughter. As it is, I'm very much looking forward to returning to the classroom on Monday. So much has gone on in my absence; I'll be asking the children to help me get back up to speed on Place Out of Time, their science projects and the rest of ongoing conversations.

I'd like to give a big thanks to Donna Turner who has been filling in for me.
